The kits they like from Sally Hansen or wherever are really good and easy, or you can just get them done at a salon.
There's some really good DIY ideas here at Seventeen though:

Personally, I just go to the nail salon. For about 20 bucks, you can get a professional job that is neat and will last twice as long. I've tried those kits before and have had nothing but a mess. I can never seem to get the lines on my french all the same size, length, etc. Also, the nail polish they give you in those kits is not good quality. They smudge very easily. How do u give yourself a french pedicure?
Most stores have kits for this in their nail department. I got mine at walmart, I know walgreen's has them too. They come with a bunch of sticky little curved strips. Stick that on, so you can basically stencil the white line where you want it. Once it dries, peel off the sticky things, and paint with the clear coat.
It took me a few tries to get my toes to look the way I want, but I think the kits are a great alternative to paying someone else to do it.
Plus, I hate having people touch my feet. EW!
there are french tip kits available at cosmetic stores, or you can DIY by putting tape on your nail for a straight line if you don't have a steady hand...
